ANKENY HIGH SCHOOL CAMPS | Cross Country Camps

 

This Cross Country Camp is led by the Ankeny Cross Country Coaching Staff.
Open to ANY and ALL Students Enrolled in Ankeny Community Schools.

9TH - 12TH GRADE BOYS CROSS COUNTRY CAMP

Ankeny Hawks Boys’ Cross-Country Head Coach Jon Lindaman & the cross-country staff will again be offering a summer training program to runners entering 9th-12th grades. Younger runners are encouraged to participate in the camp designed especially for middle school runners.  As a team we will train for 2020 PR’s and to continue the Ankeny Hawk legacy of running excellence.  We will strive to create a cohesive team and  increase strength, endurance and flexibility throughout the summer.

This camp will offer many different types of workouts and explore many different running routes around the community. We will gradually increase mileage throughout the summer, and each athletes training program will be tailored to their age, ability level, and desire to grow as a runner. Coaches will provide games to keep training fun, and each athlete will receive a camp t-shirt for registering.

Monday/Wednesday will begin with strength training in the Southview weight room followed by a running workout.  Tuesday/Thursday will begin with dynamic drills & plyometrics at the Southview track, followed by a running workout.

6TH - 8TH GRADE BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY CAMP

Ankeny track and cross country coach Thomas Cotter will offer an introduction to distance running/cross country for incoming 6th-8th grade boys and girls.  All skill levels are welcome as we will tailor workouts based on varying ability levels.

Camp will focus on building the mental and physical toughness to run longer distances.  The camp will include various running workouts, flexibility and strength training. The camp will focus on proper eating and hydrating for the distance athlete. Runners will gradually increase mileage throughout the summer. Camp t-shirt included in the price.

9TH - 12TH GRADE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY CAMP

Ankeny Hawks Girls' Cross Country Coach Eric Klingensmith and the Hawkette XC staff will again offer summer training camps to runners entering 9th - 12th grades. Join your teammates to train for a successful 2019 season by working to set PRs, build a cohesive team, and increase strength. Our camp includes various running workouts, flexibility, and strength training. Each athlete's training program will be tailored to their age, ability level, and desire to grow in their running experiences. Runners will log and gradually increase mileage throughout the summer, exploring several running routes, including games to keep the training fresh, fun, and exciting. T-shirts will be ordered when all registrations are complete and distributed at camp. In addition, our staff will develop strength training sessions as a primary focus of each Tuesday and Thursday of the weekly training schedule. Finally, at the beginning of the season, after the first Saturday run on August 15th, we will have our team breakfast to recognize Summer Running Achievements and host a pre-season parent meeting.

LOCATION: Ankeny High School and other locations to be communicated via a training calendar.

Girls will meet at AHS track for the first day. The training calendar will reflect other locations sites for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Weight/Strength training will be the major focus of Tuesdays & Thursdays so those training days will always be held at Southview.
